About us

NEFR – Racing was established in 2005 under the name North East Freeriders. At first the idea behind this was to create a small local website where riders from the area could hang out, post photos and videos of themselves riding and to generally meet new friends. As the website grew and riders progressed, we started to build North Shore Trails, Freeride area and Dirt jump park on our own private land courtesy of “Chewy” and his farm.

However in 2006 this Freeride scene led to a few riders trying out Downhill racing. After some pretty decent results in local races, the NEFR name was gaining popularity round the North East of England and more and more people became involved with the website. This prompted a new direction for the website and 2007 saw the start of a race team called Team NEFR which competed in the SDA series and Urban Downhill Events.

The 2008 season was a big year for the team. Its was this year where we hooked up with Nema who provided us with our race kit for the season and this strong relationship continues today. 2009 was an even bigger year for the team adding more sponsors from Skins and Muc-Off and it also saw a number of riders hit the podium spots such as James Risker, Dan Simmons, Lee Podmore and Dec Watson.

The new decade of 2010 gives rise to NEFR’s 5th Birthday and another change in direction and name. The 2010 season will see the team compete under the name NEFR – Racing and for the first time also compete in the NPS 4X as well as Downhill, with James Robberts Leading the way in the 4X team. With the launch of the new website and new look NEFR-Racing, we hope to have another great year competing all over the country, promoting ourselves and our sponsors whilst continuing the excellent relationships with Nema, skins, muc-off and local bike shop Peddlers in Redcar, who, without the sponsors excellent support NEFR wouldn’t be where it is today. The website has also continued to grow and we now have a more user friendly forum where members can hang out and chat about anything bike related, meet new friends and get out riding and promote mountain biking in the North East of England.
